Sheetali: A Cooling Breath for Hot Afternoons
In Malaysian heat, Sheetali is the traditional way to cool the breath. You inhale through a rolled tongue, so the air passes over a moist surface, then exhale through the nose. Many people find it calming on hot, irritable afternoons.
This tip is scheduled for Tuesday 6 October 2026 — you’re early. It’s all here already; enjoy.
How to do it
- Sit comfortably with a tall spine.
- Roll the sides of the tongue into a tube and let the tip rest just outside the lips.
- Inhale slowly through the tube of the tongue and feel the cool air.
- Close the mouth and exhale slowly through the nose.
- Repeat for 10 to 15 breaths.
- Return to normal breathing and notice the cooling.
