Why SEGA AI Judge?

Competitive yogasana has traditionally been scored by human panels. The SEGA AI Judge System does not replace that expertise — it standardises the measurable parts and keeps a full record. Here is an honest, side-by-side look at what changes, and what does not.

The starting point

Judging a subjective art, fairly

A yogasana performance is part measurable and part interpretive. Alignment angles, hold duration and stability are physical quantities a camera can measure precisely. Grace, breath and overall impression are things experienced human judges read well. The goal is not "machine versus human" — it is to let each do what it does best, and to make the whole process transparent enough that an athlete can see exactly why they received a score.

Side by side

Human panel vs SEGA AI Judge

Both approaches have real strengths. This table compares them on the dimensions that most affect an athlete's result. The right-hand column describes the SEGA system as designed and currently operated.

DimensionTraditional human panelSEGA AI Judge System
Viewing angleLimited to each judge's seat; some instabilities fall outside the line of sight.Front camera plus optional 45° side camera at 1080p / 60fps capture the pose from fixed, repeatable angles.
Consistency over a long dayHuman attention naturally varies with fatigue across many rounds. The same measurement standard is applied to the first and the last athlete of the day.
Measurable formAlignment and hold are estimated by eye.Anatomical landmarks are tracked per frame; alignment and hold are measured, not estimated.
DifficultyApplied from the rulebook by each judge.Verified automatically against the published SEGA difficulty tariff.
TransparencyA final score; the internal reasoning is rarely broken down for the athlete.Every score breaks into Execution, Stability and Difficulty, with a per-chart calculation record.
Audit trailPaper or spreadsheet tallies. Each performance is stored in tamper-evident archives that feed the rankings.
Scale & reachNeeds a full certified panel physically present.Standardised scoring can extend to remote and online events with the same criteria.
Interpretive quality (grace, breath)A core human strength. Not claimed — ambiguous or interpretive cases escalate to certified Master Judges.

What the AI does

Measure the measurable

Execution

Anatomical landmarks are tracked to confirm alignment and true form, frame by frame.

Stability

Micro-movements during a hold are quantified, distinguishing a steady posture from an unsteady one.

Difficulty

The attempted asana is matched to the published SEGA tariff, so harder postures are credited consistently.

Being straight with you

What the AI does not do

An honest comparison has to say where the limits are. The SEGA AI Judge System is a measurement and record-keeping tool, not an infallible oracle.

Humans stay in the loop

Certified Master Judges remain part of the process. When a movement is ambiguous, out of the expected range, or interpretive in nature, the case is escalated to a human judge rather than forced into a number.

Validation is ongoing and stated plainly

Published agreement figures come from internal calibration on a limited sample, and are labelled as such on the evidence page — they are not presented as an independent, peer-reviewed accuracy claim. As the dataset grows, the figures and their methodology will be updated openly.

No superlatives we cannot document

SEGA describes the system as patent-pending (Malaysian Patent Pending PI2026005219) and does not claim to be the biggest or the only system of its kind. Where a first-of-its-kind event has been independently witnessed, that is stated with its specific source rather than as a blanket marketing claim.

A practical bonus

The Winning Gap

Because the AI breaks a result into Execution, Stability and Difficulty, it can also show an athlete exactly how far they sit from the next medal threshold, and in which dimension. Traditional scoring gives a placing; the SEGA breakdown turns that placing into a specific, coachable target. That is the same data that powers the SEGA World Ranking.
