Sit-to-Stand: The Everyday Strength Exercise
Getting up from a chair without using your hands is one of the best everyday measures of leg strength — and one of the best ways to build it.
This tip is scheduled for Monday 23 November 2026 — you’re early. It’s all here already; enjoy.
How to do it
- Sit near the front of a stable chair, feet hip-width apart and slightly behind the knees.
- Cross the arms over the chest, or keep the hands ready on the thighs.
- Lean forward with a long back — 'nose over toes'.
- Press through the feet and stand up fully.
- Sit down slowly, taking about 3 seconds, and lightly touch the seat.
- Repeat 8 to 10 times; build up to 2 sets.
